A news came out yesterday that the Andhra Pradesh Government has started providing high-speed broadband at unbelievable rates under their scheme called AP Fibernet. The Government is charging only INR 149/month for a 15 Mbps line and INR 999/month for a 100 Mbps line. But is it really the same thing that we are thinking it to be? Let’s find out. Below are the answers to some of the questions that people asked us about this new broadband scheme.
AP Fibernet: Frequently Asked Questions
How much speed will really be provided under this scheme?
The speed of the Internet will actually be what is been stated in the news. The plan of INR 149/month is for the households and they will get a speed of 15 Mbps (1.8 MB/s) till 5 GB of data and after that the speed will be reduced to 512 Kbps (60 KB/s) on which unlimited data can be used. But the plan of INR 999/month is only for the offices and they will get a speed of 100 Mbps (12.5 MB/s).
Is there any data restrictions and what are the different plans?
In the plan of INR 149/month, the data limit is 5 GB, after using 5 GB of data the speed for connection will be reduced to 512 Kbps.
The other plan is for INR 399/month on which the data limit for 15 Mbps speed will be 25 GB.
The next plan is for INR 599/month, subscribers of which will get unlimited browsing and downloading at a speed of 1 Mbps (125 KB/s).
Is it already available in the whole of Andhra Pradesh?
No, right now the scheme will be provided only in the districts of Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram. People of these 3 districts will be able to apply for the AP Fibrenet after April 1st, 2016. It will be spread to rest of the state by the end of July, 2016.
How did it become possible to provide the internet at such low cost?
This scheme has been started under the ‘Digital India’ campaign of Indian Government. And the low cost comes from the fact that Overhead Fibrenet cable is being used in this project instead of underground cables. Andhra Pradesh Government has also tied up with Cisco for the implementation of this program, to reduce the cost.
When will it be available in other parts of India?
As the scheme has been started under the ‘Digital India’ campaign, we can definitely say that it will very soon be implemented in other states also. But right now, there is no information about when will it happen.
